2017: Party in style this New Year!
28th December 2016
Everyone loves the chance to have a fresh start, and New Year presents the perfect opportunity. At Antler Homes, we love an excuse to throw a great party, and when its celebrating all things new, as well as the happiness and successes of the past year, then it’s the perfect mix. We’ve put together a list of our top hosting tips for you to ensure you welcome in 2017 with a bang!
- Decorate accordingly. New Year’s Eve is a real chance to celebrate all the good things that have come to pass in 2016 (yes, there have been some!), and all the things that could happen in 2017. Your venue should reflect this – so don’t hold back on glamorous décor. Gold-coloured homewares and bright, exuberant colours should add that extra bit of sparkle to your evening. Clear living areas such as the kitchen and living room so there is plenty of space for your guests.
- Plan plan plan. This can be a good task for the quieter days that follow the Christmas rush, but make sure to get to the shops on time to buy your food and supplies, as they often close earlier on New Year’s Eve. Catering to all tastes is key, but don’t be afraid to push the boat out in terms of taste. Prawn and avocado with a hint of wasabi served on rice crackers, or maybe olive and mushroom crostini, are sure to tempt your guests’ taste buds. Additionally, asparagus spears wrapped in Parma ham and mascarpone, or smoked salmon blinis are always a crowd pleaser, and cheese fondue sets can help encourage guests to interact and meet each other.
- Party games are key. Depending on who is coming, and if you’re expecting families, it’s worth providing lots of activities to keep little ones busy. Pass the parcel, giant snakes and ladders and pin the tail on the donkey are good choices, and provide a good laugh for the adults as well as the little ones! If you’re not inviting younger guests, have your friends write down their New Year’s resolutions and put them into a hat. Draw them out and try to guess which person wrote them.
- Don’t hold the champagne until midnight! It’s good to have drinks ready as your guests arrive to hand to them at the door, and provide a variety of mixers and other spirits so that guests can concoct their devilish cocktail.
These are just a few tips we find make a good New Year’s Eve a great one! From all of us at Antler Homes, we would like to wish you a very happy and successful 2017.
