Help to Buy – Why rent when you can buy?

If you’ve always dreamt of owning your own home, you could find that taking your first steps onto the property ladder are more affordable than you think.

The Government’s Help to Buy scheme has helped thousands of people move from rented accommodation to having a home of their own. Recent figures from the BBC show that one in three new build properties outside London were bought through Help to buy since it was introduced in 2013.

The scheme can help you afford the home you want, sooner, and did just that for Mike Langton, who bought a new home in Sway.

Mike and his partner used the Help to Buy scheme when purchasing their first home at Antler Homes’ Marryat Grange development in Sway. And they’re not alone - official figures show that over the period since the launch of Help to Buy, (1 April 2013 to 31 December 2016) 112, 338 new homes were bought across the UK using Help to Buy.

With a Help to Buy equity loan you only need a 5% deposit, the government will lend you up to 20% of the cost of your home. Add this to the 5% you’ve saved and you’ll only need a 75% mortgage, making the amount you need to borrow more manageable.
